Andrew J. Barnes

Andrew J. Barnes, 71, of Elkville, passed away at 2:13 P.M., Sunday, April 25, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Andrew had worked as a buggy runner at Old Ben Coal Company.  He was of the Methodist faith.  He was a member of UMW of A and Jackson County Farm Bureau.
He was born October 14, 1932 at Flag, Arkansas, the son of Harvey Willis and Bertha (Broyles) Barnes.
He married Mary H. Hart on December 22, 1956 at Marion, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Elkville, one daughter - Marlene Burkett and husband Greg of Georgetown, TX, mother-in-law - Minnie Calbroth of Marion, IL, five sisters - Lorraine Rhine of Shirley, AR, Nobalene Roberts of Fox, AR, Francine Briethaupt of Batesville, AR, Ola Mae Hinesley of Shirley, AR, and Patsy Haskins of Searcy, AR, two brother-in-laws - Andy Hart of Buckner, IL and Jerry Hart of Alger, AL, two sister-in-laws - Ann Witters of Marion, IL and Imogene Bjorklund of Hammond, IN, three grandchildren - Lindsey Hoffman, Curtis Hoffman and Matthew Hoffman, and one step grandchild - Sierra Burkett, several nephews and nieces and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Gerald Dwayne Barnes and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Paul Brown officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro, IL.
